Bringing you the most unique event venue in Edinburgh!

In addition to our Show each August, Edinburgh Castle has set an impressive backdrop for a multitude of high-profile music events. Since the first Castle Concerts in 1991, when Runrig and Van Morrison hit the Esplanade stage, the Tattoo Arena has hosted some of the world's biggest stars including Blondie, Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue and Edinburgh’s homegrown heroes, The Proclaimers.  

Annually, in May, we begin the mammoth task of building our Tattoo Arena, an operation that has been in place since the Tattoo began in 1950, when the first temporary stand appeared on the Castle Esplanade. From the rustic wooden structures of old, today’s architectural spectacular is a feat of modern engineering. Specially designed for the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, they take just 7 weeks to construct and come complete with production and hospitality suites, lift access, onsite toilets and accessible changing area. Plus, purpose built for concerts, a specialist stage is incorporated featuring full lighting rig and large screens displays.  

Once in place, the stands will remain for 4 months over summer, becoming one of the most unique venues in Scotland. Rising high above the city center, our arena gives an epic view of Edinburgh’s skyline whilst the imposing façade of Edinburgh Castle sets its own distinct backdrop for our one-of-a-kind event space. 

The Tattoo Arena have seen their fair share of music gigs over the years, however for the first time in 2023 we’ve teamed up with our friends at Castle Concerts to bring our event management expertise. Using our 70 years of experience in operations and event management, we’re excited to facilitate a number of highly anticipated music concerts this July. You can see rock legends, The Who, British icon, Rod Stewart and US group The Lumineers in the heart of Scotland’s capital.
