Electro Pipes return this August!
Electro Pipes made their Tattoo debut in 2022. Fusing traditional Scottish instruments with modern music, they will make their highly anticipated return this August.
Electro Pipes was formed from The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Performers in 2022, led by Tattoo Pipes and Drums Pipe Major, Alisdair McLaren, this group was created to showcase the evolution of Scottish trad music.
Honouring the traditions of Scottish cultural music and dance is important to us, and keeping these art forms alive for future generations is a mission we take seriously. Scottish traditional music has been evolving for years, with musicians such as Martin Bennett taking a pioneering role in the 1990s and current groups such as The SIDH, reaching a new audience of bagpipe enthusiasts. Inspired by their modern approach to Celtic music, we featured songs by both artists in our 2022 Show, Voices.
Electro Pipes aims to do the same, showcasing the versatility of Scottish traditional instruments with an energetic and upbeat sound. This August, they will tell the story of the evolution of Scottish traditional music by combining bagpipes, highland dance and the Shetland fiddle with electronic beats.
Tattoo Fiddle Major, Margaret Robertson, who will join Electro Pipes for a second year this August highlights the importance of progression within traditional music for nurturing the next generation of musicians and dancers.
“I’m sure any young person seeing Electro Pipes at the Tattoo will look at it and think, I want to be that performer that’s getting the chance to be a rock star. Any opportunity like that, to give inspiration for someone to take-up the fiddle, or pipes or dance, surely is a good thing.”
Here’s a little taste of what you can expect this Summer!
