Our Journeys Running Order

Chart your Journeys experience. With a week to go until our 2024 opening night, explore our full 2024 running order and learn more about the talented team joining us this August.

Announcing the musical adventure ahead, our Journeys Show will open with a Fanfare. Cast your eyes to the Edinburgh Castle Ramparts and look out for the 21 trumpeters heralding the beginning of the Show. They are joined by musicians from the Massed Bands of His Majesty’s Royal Marines.

Trumpet melody will soon be replaced with the drone and beat of over 230 bagpipes and drums as our incredible Massed Pipes and Drums make their dramatic entrance across the Castle drawbridge.

Next, our journey will cross the North Atlantic. From South Carolina, The Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes will return to the Castle Esplanade. Expect big band energy and contemporary twists.

From America, we travel back home, with our Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Dancers showing why they are the best of the best. Prepare for energetic athleticism and formation Highland Dance.

Returning to North America, The United States Navy Ceremonial Guard will take to the stage. Making their first appearance at our Show, the group travelled from Washington D.C. Their spinning bayonets and silent precision drill promises a heart-stopping performance that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Our next destination is the vibrant streets of India. Teamwork Arts India journey back to the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade following their Tattoo success in 2017. Showcasing Bhangra, Bollywood and a Rajasthani Piper, their high-tempo routine will have you dancing in your seat.

Back to North America we go. Formed especially for this year’s Journeys Show, the United States Sea Service Band is made up of the Quantico Marine Corp Band, United States Naval Forces Europe and Africa Band and The United States Coast Guard Band. From Jazz to pop, they combine their military heritage with contemporary sound.

Our musical adventure continues with ‘The Voyage’ transporting you to the shores of Scotland and Ireland. In this performance, our Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Performers explore the evolution of Scottish and Celtic music, celebrating its journey through time.

From rugged coastlines, we chart a course to the mountains of Switzerland. Making their Tattoo debut Majesticks Drum Corps will display the dynamic precision drumming Switzerland is famous for, adding their own twist – including light displays!

Next, be transported to the night clubs of Europe with a Highland Rave. Our Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Performers bring trad music to the 21st Century. Highland Rave pairs whistle, pipes, drums and fiddle with electronic beats. These tunes will be stuck in your head for days!

Following a whirlwind tour of the world, our journey is homeward bound. The final destination on our voyage is the shores of the United Kingdom. Made up of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Bands Portsmouth, Plymouth and Scotland, the Massed Bands of His Majesty’s Royal Marines are set to impress. Their soundtrack will take you on a journey through naval history. From sea shanties, to nautical music from the big screen. Keep an eye out for their world-famous Corps of Drums.

Our final sequence will commence when the Royal Navy Ceremonial Guard arrive on the Esplanade. As our 2024 Guard of Honour they set a stoic silhouette. Once in position, our finale will begin with the full 2024 cast reuniting for a celebration of music and culture.

As the music softens, our Lone Piper begins their lament from atop the Castle Ramparts. This poignant change in pace of proceedings offers a moment of reflection.

To close the Show, our Journeys cast will once again unite before they depart for home.

We cannot wait to share the adventure with you. If you have not already got your tickets. You can purchase online now, or phone our Box Office on +44 (0) 131 225 1188.
