Our Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Pipes and Drums to join Skipinnish on stage at Edinburgh Castle
Ahead of this year's Show kicking off next month, members of our Tattoo Pipes and Drums will join Skipinnish on stage at Edinburgh Castle as part of the Castle Concerts series on Friday 12th July.
No strangers to the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, performers from our Tattoo Pipes and Drums will take to the stage for the first time to perform alongside popular Celtic music band, Skipinnish.
As well as joining the band on stage, our Pipes and Drums have also been featured on the latest single from Skipinnish. Paired with the vocals of folk favourite Karen Matheson of Capercaillie, the track, entitled Eagle’s Wing, sees the Tattoo Pipes and Drums take a prominent role in the uplifting piece written by Angus MacPhail.
Paying tribute to Scotland's arts, medicine, industry, and sports heritage, Eagle’s Wing incorporates lyrics that celebrate the achievements of historical and contemporary Scots alike, emphasising place and belonging for Scots worldwide – something that resonates with this year's Tattoo theme, Journeys.
The new collaboration continues our commitment to Scottish traditional arts and ability to provide a world stage for Scottish talent, continuing the partnership which began in 2022 when the Skipinnish hit, Walking on the Waves, was featured in the our Tattoo finale.
“We are so proud to continue to support the Scottish music scene. We’ve been firm friends with the band since we featured their music in the Show, and it’s great to have an opportunity to welcome them to our home at Edinburgh Castle and join them on stage. What better way for our pipers to warm up for the upcoming Tattoo in August”.
Performance Director at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
“Feeling connected to your homeland is a deep human experience, and it’s possible to celebrate this connection humbly. Scots, although no different in worth from others, have made remarkable contributions globally despite being a small country. Many of these achievements come from Scots who have spread across the world over centuries, with distance often strengthening their ties to home.
“Having the opportunity to perform at Edinburgh Castle really is a once in a lifetime experience, and one we cherish as we celebrate our 25th anniversary as a band. I'm sure the moment we stand side by side with our Tattoo friends in the shadow of the Castle will be an incredible experience”.
